Rose Hill News Online is a hyperlocal news blog that runs alongside the free hyperlocal newsletter Rose Hill News. RHNO was started in 2016 by Aimee Winkfield who saw the potential to bring hyperlocal news online for the Rose Hill area in Oxford.

The main motivation was to create a platform where news could be covered and posted in between issues. This meant that news videos could be recorded and stored on the site adding another element to the coverage of local news. Another important motivation was having somewhere to store old issues that only existed in print, so PDF files were uploaded to the site so anyone could re-read or discover past issues of the paper.

Like the Rose Hill newsletter, all content on the site is written by volunteers/local residents. RHNO is always looking for residents to get involved in the production of hyperlocal news.

Please get involved! We would love for more volunteers to get involved in creating content /sourcing stories for the website.

Please contact: aimee-rosehillnews@hotmail.com for more details. No experience needed and we appreciate any content sent to us as long as it directly relates to the community/ area of Rose Hill. Please contact us if you’re an organisation or charity who would like to get involved within the Rose Hill Community.

  1. Aimee: Just wanted to thank you for your great story on my mother Florence Tomlinson in 2016 on her 100th birthday. She died in 2019 and we used a lot of your story for our funeral ceremony. So well written! Thanks again. Helen Wade jwadewind@aol.com

    • Thank you so much Helen. Your mother was such a character and whenever I give talks about the community newspaper at Oxford Brookes University to media students, I always mention that story/front page and interview as being one of my favourites. Many blessings, stay safe. Aimee

  2. We remember you well Aimee. You were at the top of the list interviewing Florence and listening to her stories.
We miss my Mum every day, and hope that her neighbors in Alice and Margaret are keeping well.
So strange Oxford having so many less people downtown now. I miss the covered market and see my Mum in all of the memories that I have of Oxford.
Good to hear from you again.

    • Dear John and Helen, I just wanted to reach out to you to let you know that I have found the voice recording of Florence’s interview in my files! It’s 48 minutes long, and I’ve only just started listening to it, it’s very clear. I just wondered if this was something you would like me to send to you? My email address is: [ aimee-rosehillnews@hotmail.com ] and my number is: 07983972519 (+447983972519). Hopefully this message reaches you well.
      Kind regards,
      Aimee
