Two amazing new Youth Clubs in Rose Hill (2016)
Youth ambition, in partnership with Rose Hill’s Junior Youth, hosted a joint launch of two new youth clubs last month, (February).
Leonard Sackey, the youth participation officer for Youth Ambition told us:
“The joint launch event was very successful with high numbers from the community attending the event. We were able to engage with lots of young people through activities such as dodgeball, tchoukball, table tennis, badminton and board games. Most of the young people who attended the launch also came to our half term activities on Monday and Wednesday in Rose Hill Community Centre.”
Youth Ambitions aim is to build meaningful relationships with young people aged 10-21 years old, (or up to 25 if they have physical or learning difficulties), who are from Oxford’s regeneration areas.
The second and new youth club for 11-14 years, aptly named ‘Roshillians Youth Club’, by the young people themselves has also started successfully.
A soft launch was held at the beginning of February with a large turnout, where the young people were asked what sort of things they wanted from a youth club and they even set their own rules!
Roshillians Youth Club Coordinator, Lizzie Carline said: “The youth club has started really strong with nearly 20 members already signed up, it’s a great space for them to have fun, talk to friends, and get support. We are looking forward to lots of trips too!”
The Youth Ambition team will be delivering a youth club on Mondays in Rose Hill Community Centre 5-7pm, for age 14+ and we are hoping that the launch has encouraged all those who attended to join and bring along their friends. And RoseHillians will be from 6:00-7:30pm on Thursdays.
Rivermead Wildlife Project update (2016)
We hope that local people are starting to recognize the improvements on site at Rivermead. We have been working hard to open up the areas around the pond to allow more light in for water loving plants. We have also created an outdoor learning area which we hope will be used by Rose Hill Primary School. New interpretation signs have also been installed which help to explain the importance of the site.
The fly tipping situation does seem to have improved but we would still encourage local people to help us with this and let us know if they see anyone fly tipping. We would like to encourage people who walk their dogs on the site to please respect other users and clear up after their dogs. There is a problem with dog mess being left on the site, this makes it difficult for volunteers and also when working with children.
We will work to improve the site further this year and will continue to work with Rose Hill Primary to construct some ‘living doorways’ made from willow to create a more welcoming feel at the site.

Oxford Academy’s Sport Relief fundraiser!
On Friday 18th March, the Oxford Academy will be raising money for Sport Relief by taking part in a Bubble football tournament!
School statement:
‘The Oxford Academy students will be taking on their own challenge by getting involved in a ‘Bubble Football Tournament’. Students will attempt to raise cash and beat the goalie wearing giant inflatable bubble suits. The tournaments will take place every day and students will pay to play. There will also be a Question of Sport Quiz on Friday 18th March where both students and staff will test out their sporting knowledge for Sport Relief’.
PE teacher, Anneka Fowler said: “Students at the Oxford Academy love taking part in Sport Relief. It’s an excellent way to bring staff, students and the community together and get active, have fun and raise money for a great cause!”
Those schools that haven’t already signed up can still get involved in Sport Relief 2016. As always, schools can organize a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Friday 18th March, but there are lots of other ways to join the fun and games too. Planting for the future

It was an exciting day yesterday at Rose Hill Primary school! Sixty volunteers from Nicholsons Plants Forestry Landscapes turned up at 7:30 am to install a forest site in the school field. Despite the cold weather, the volunteers managed to install a pond, a fire-pit, an array of plants, trees, boulders and logs; as well as seating and tepee areas for shelter and outdoor learning. This is a fantastic addition to the primary school and the children were so excited watching it all being built for them. The construction was filmed for the new Rose Hill News online site and we would like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers for their amazing work!
