I was invited to a celebration in Rose Hill where families and friends gathered together to celebrate Newroz, the celebration of the traditional new year holiday in Kurdish society at Rose Hill Community Centre.
“Newroz is the Kurdish celebration of the Persian new year holiday “Nowruz.” Kurdish Newroz coincides with the Spring Equinox, and is a festival celebrating the beginning of spring”- The Kurdish Project.
Guests also danced a traditional Kurdish dance throughout the night to celebrate the occasion.
